Poetry

Kahsenniyo is a multidisciplinary Mohawk artist from the Wolf Clan of the Six Nations of the Grand River.

Her poetry performances combine storytelling, lived experience, and historical context to create an experience that is both artistic and deeply thought-provoking.

Through spoken word, she explores themes of:

  • Indigenous identity and belonging

  • intergenerational trauma and resilience

  • resistance and sovereignty 

  • reconciliation

  • motherhood 

  • sterilization and eugenics

  • the realities of Indigenous life under colonialism

Each performance invites audiences to listen, reflect, and engage with stories that are often left out of mainstream narratives.

Kahsenniyo has been performing spoken word poetry since 2008. Her work creates powerful experiences that resonate with audiences across many settings.
